Intern Blog Week #1 – Finding My Way

‘Starting a job in a pandemic’ is now being added to my resume, because I don’t think that’s been done by a lot of people until now.

About Me

Hi there, and welcome to the inner mind workings of Marki McClelland the newest Intern for Like A Voss Social Media. Before I get into the main topic of this blog post, I’d like you to get to know me a little bit, since I will be here for 6 weeks.

I am a local to Kingston and I say that because you can’t have a life in Odessa, Ontario without spending all of your time in Kingston. (All my outer corner people, give me a holla!) I am about to graduate from my three-year program at St. Lawrence College for Advertising Marketing Communications Management.

I am a lover of fashion and style and advocate for people of all sizes to speak their truths and wear whatever the hell they want to. I believe that everyone should be treated with patience and kindness, more than ever now with the world trying to stop the spread of COVID-19.

My First Week

As I stated before, I have started my internship in the wake of COVID-19, I am lucky enough to be working with the Like A Voss team who is actually made up of all remote workers. So, them being able to add me to the team and help me adapt to working from home has been a blessing. (Hats off to new learning adventures!)

My very first day was, to say the least, was A LOT. What I mean by a lot is that Mondays are very busy here at Like A Voss! For me, that meant signing on and having LOTS of things to do – things that I had never done before. I wasn’t exactly sure where to start, but I did it!

I remember panicking because everything was so new and I didn’t want to do a terrible job, especially because some of it was real client work and didn’t want to let anyone down lol. I have always had trouble with self-doubt when it comes to my work. I know I can do amazing things, but it’s hard to completely believe it. Luckily I had help from the others here at Like A Voss who was more than happy to answer any of the questions I had, even with being very busy themselves.

Goals

3 goals I have so far from completing placement are:

  • have more confidence and less self-doubt in my work (I am completely qualified)
  • To not let mistakes take a toll on me, we’re all learning new things, some of us at the same time and mistakes are what teach us and allow us to move forward.
  • To get closer to overcoming my anxiety of new experiences and new things. I want to be optimistic and excited more rather than scared and worried.

Thank you all for taking the time to read my first blog post! Check back every Friday throughout my six weeks to learn more and see what it’s like to be a Like A Voss Intern.
