Intern Blog Week #3 – Halfway Done with More to Come!

Wow, I can’t believe I’m sitting here writing out my THIRD intern blog post! It feels like yesterday that I was getting my first welcome email and meeting the team for the first time. I’m halfway done now and I’m proud of what I’ve been learning so far! (woohoo!)

This week has been great, Monday starts now with team check-in and it’s always nice to see the team face to face and hear about how everyone’s weekend was. This is the time where we talk about what went right last week, and tasks that need improvement.

Tuesday was a big day as I was given a new project that I will be working on until the end of my placement. I’ll be honest I am a little overwhelmed lol, but it’s never stopped me from giving it my all!

Something that I’ve noticed in myself is my ability to work under pressure. I’ve always been able to do it before but working for a real company makes the work feel more meaningful and allows you to keep doing your best.

What I’ve Learned This Week

This week I learned how to create the most effective hashtag clouds for Instagram.

Part one: find keywords that go with your business, researching them on Instagram to see what kind of Instagram profiles come up when you search the key words. Research your key words through Instagram and see what kind of hashtags associated with that key word.

Part two: See if the keyword or hashtag is active by seeing the last time someone has posted using it. You also can look at the people who are also using the hashtag and their posts to see if it matches your ideal audience.  Make sure to see if the hashtag is the right size meaning is it too generalized or if it is active enough for other people to find you within the hashtag.

Part 3: Group by type of content such as themes.

Small Victories From This Week

One of my goals from last week’s blog post was to start asking more questions and ask for clarification or help. With starting a new project this week, I’ve been able to ask all the questions I need clarification on to work more efficiently.

I know as an intern you want to seem like you know how to do everything to impress your boss, which is great but also don’t be afraid to ask for clarification. Right now, because we are all working at home, the communication is not as immediate as it would be in an office space.

You can’t just turn your head to the side and ask your questions, you have to send them in an email, post on Slack, or get clarification with a video call. That means you have to remember to ask, even if it seems silly, or is about something small. Placement is a time for learning!

Goals For Week Four

  • Get more confident with new tasks
  • Keep asking questions
  • Keep catching my mistakes

As I move into my fourth week I am eager to see how much more I can grow my abilities as a social media marketer and keep working through my tasks.

See you all next week!
