Intern Blog Week #4 – Being Creative While Keeping Calm

“Peace is the result of retraining your mind to process life as it is, rather than as you think it should be.” —Wayne W. Dyer

As I’m entering my fourth week with Like A Voss, I’m starting to gain a sense of calm and determination even with everything going on the world.

COVID-19 has definitely changed the way placement had been originally laid out, we were originally going to be in a Kingston co-working space filled with chatter and city noises as we collaborate with one another in a conference area with probably many laughs.

I know a lot of us are feeling that disappointment of ‘what once was going to be’, but I am feeling really hopeful and grateful for what has happened instead. I got to start my placement earlier than what had been planned and right away had the opportunity to work in the field of social media marketing and content creation while witnessing all the behind the scenes of excellent social media strategy.

As I said before about the calm, I am someone who doesn’t handle stress most healthily. It never stopped me from working or doing my best but sometimes stress will cause me to lose focus of what the most important things are and second guess my abilities.

Sometimes you just need to have a moment of realization and feel your feelings to move on to the next thing. Everything is temporary, so you might as well enjoy the ride while you can.

One of my tasks was to create a monthly newsletter for Like A Voss to showcase blog posts but to also send out a greeting to all their subscribers who want to keep updated on all things social media, as well as hear inspirational stories from female entrepreneurs.
I’ve used Mailchimp once in an assignment to create a personalized newsletter for a campus cleaning company, I love getting to be creative and brand, so it was easy to assume I was going to have fun with this project.

Here’s how it went:

Step 1: I started out with choosing a template for the newsletter, we are working on the free version of Mailchimp so there were a couple to choose from. I wanted the layout to be easy to read without having a lot of scrolling for the reader. I chose a single column layout and added Like A Voss’s logo to the top so readers know the brand.

Step 2: I know the team wanted to have a personalized message at the top for each month so I added a text box under the logo, so anyone can change up the message each time. Sections were added after to have our #VOSSBABE Blog posts highlighted with clickable links to the website to read more. Spots have also added for our social media tips and tricks blog posts.

Step 3: A footer was added to the bottom personalized for Amanda so that the reader knows who they can contact if they have any inquiries or questions. It also gives the newsletter a personal touch. It was important to link social media as well in case a reader wanted to learn more or see our work in action.

Small Victories

I had the opportunity to start writing blog posts for Remix, a company under the Like A Voss umbrella and I was really proud of my first blog post!

I’ve had some struggles with formatting and catching my mistakes in previous posts so I had some doubt in myself. After writing and some editing I was impressed with how my words flowed and my knowledge of social media. This might seem like a very small victory but for me, it was a huge confidence boost!

Next Week Goals:

  • Keep writing.
  • Include at least one thing I learned into my blog posts!
  • Keep reading aloud and catching mistakes.
  • Enjoy every moment.

Thank you all who are keeping up with my posts, I know some of my friends are keeping up with my journey and I really appreciate the support!

Until next week,
