I had always told myself agency was never for me; however, Like a Voss Inc has made my experience working so much fun.
Initially, when I thought of an internship, I thought I would be shadowing or reading documents and not doing actual client work.
Even though I have placement on Wednesdays, it is still a jam-packed day of different tasks.
Mandi has made this internship so that each intern has a list of tasks to do for real clients, which means that each of us actually get a hands-on learning experience.
Sometimes, when I get a task I’ve never done before, I make some errors because I don’t know what I’m doing. However, I feel that mistakes are opportunities to learn how to do something new, and eventually I am able to complete tasks correctly and with confidence. This experience will help me in the future if I ever work a job working with clients, social media, or content creation.
Working alongside the Like a Voss Inc team has made me more comfortable when taking on client tasks. The team is really supportive, and happy to jump in with advice or strategies to make things easier, and also just to help me learn “how Mandi likes things done.” LOL!
I have also been learning a lot about social media through Hubspot training that I have been doing this month, which is something I needed to know more about for one of my current classes. I found the course content about social listening and monitoring really interesting, as it is something I did not know about before. Just so you know – social listening is how you analyse and respond to your audience, making sure you build a relationship of trust with your customers. Not gaining this trust can result in backlash, losing followers, authority and of course – sales. Social monitoring is looking at conversation about your brand through mentions, hashtags, competitor profiles, and even employees. Doing so will help give you a better idea of your image, and where there is room for improvement.
I would have to say that one of my most significant weaknesses in this internship is my writing skills. Even typing this blog post is scary, but it is something I want (and need to) work on to help me in my future career path. Also, doing my outward engagement tasks leaves me stumped from time to time, as I blank out and am not sure what to say to continue the conversation.
This upcoming month Mandi will be coming to Kingston and the Like A Voss team will be working together (in-person) at The Sanctuary Coworking space downtown! Having this space will allow us to meet (for real) and work together in the same place for the rest of my placement, which I think is really exciting. I am most looking forward to creating content for reels and TikTok together, it’s going to be so much fun!
