The Importance of Blogging For Business

If you’re like me you read blogs on a daily basis – but do you have one of your own, or do you blog for your business? Although most of us have realized that blogging is one of the essentials tools to marketing success, some still have not jumped on the bandwagon.

After writing a personal blog, ghost blogging, and blogging for my company I have learned and experienced the importance of blogging for business.

Four reasons to blog:

  1. Drive traffic to your website
  2. It benefits your SEO
  3. Helps to position your company as an industry leader
  4. Helps you develop customer relationships by building trust

Having a company blog allows you to create meaningful content for your clients (and potential clients). Whether you want to use blogging to help them gain a better understand of your products, or provide them with tips to help their business in general, blogging can help you achieve it. It is important to remember that the more relevant the content is to your target market the better it will serve you. Make sure that your subject matter relates to your business!

When it comes to SEO fresh content is important – it will help with the traction of your website, which in turn will deliver more visits and more sales. By publishing regular SEO friendly blogs you keep your content fresh, and which allows you beat your competition in search results. Writing an SEO friendly post isn’t as hard as you think – you just need to make sure that you are using keywords that are related to your business. There are several tools available to help you determine which keywords are the best fit, and once you know what they are you need to make sure that your writers are using them. That being said whether you actively seek out keywords or not, blogging regularly will naturally increase your website traffic.

So blogs are good for driving traffic, and increasing SEO, but what else? One of the biggest benefits of blogging for business is that it help’s you position yourself (or your company) as an industry (or thought) leader. For example; I am a social media specialist and my blogs usually surround social media. Spending time researching, learning and testing best practices will naturally give you a wealth of knowledge, and by sharing that knowledge with your audience, you prove that you know what you’re talking about.

Look at any company’s blog – you will see that their topics always relate to their industry, and if you read some you will be confident that they are competent.

Last – but certainly not least – blogging helps you develop a better relationship with your customers. It does so by building trust, which in my opinion is the most important thing.

Many elements come into play when building trust, some of which include

  • Correct grammar and spelling
  • Having a high-quality photo of the author accompanying each post
  • Social sharing buttons
  • Relevant content
  • Frequent posts
  • Links to other trustworthy sources.

Borrowing thoughts it okay too, but you need to make sure to credit other writers if you use their work.

Now that you know the importance of blogging for business the only thing to do is start blogging. The number one excuse I hear from people is “I don’t have the time,” fear not – we can help! Lots of companies use writers to generate great content for their blogs, so why can’t you?
