Here we are. The moment we’ve all been waiting for – most especially, that my parents have been waiting for. The moment Deanna finally leaves the student life behind and actually becomes… what do you call those? Oh ya, an adult.
First stop on this adulting journey: internship.
After completing a three year journalism program and now finishing up another two years in marketing, I knew that I wanted to work in a field that would allow me to put both my diplomas (and all that student debt) to good use. But what?
Well, I’ve always had a love for posting about my life (my music, style, food, adventures, etc.) and lessons I’ve learned on a journey to self growth on social media and my blog. So, when I heard about Mandi and Like a Voss through a friend, it just seemed to make sense.
A few months after hearing about Mandi, we were starting to finalize internships and I still had Like a Voss on my mind. After meeting with Mandi to get to know her and her business a bit better, I knew that learning from her would be an incredible experience and that this was going to be the place for me.
I won’t lie though. As the days got closer, the thought of starting my internship at Like a Voss had me feeling pretty nervous. I just felt like I wasn’t quite ready yet. That there was still so much I needed to learn before going in and actually working for someone else (as I’m sure many other students out there feel).
But Mandi was a great reminder that every single person out there is still learning. Every. Single. Day. This was a real eye opener for me – that just because I am done as a student doesn’t mean I’m done learning. And that we can all work together to teach each other stuff we didn’t know.
And now, as my first couple of days come to a close, I feel excited and ready. More ready then I imagined. Ready to take on new challenges. Ready to push my limits. Ready to accomplish things that are new, scary and out of my comfort zone. Ready to learn. After all, that’s the whole point of internship.
