You’re a company, so what’s so important about humanizing your brand on social media? A lot, actually.
People are attracted to people and businesses that seem authentic. The more you seem like a real person behind the brand, the more they’re likely to trust you. Having loyal customers takes trust.
So how do you humanize your brand? You are a business after all. Well, here are some tips to get you started.
It’s Not All Business
As a company on social media, it can be tempting to simply use the tool for advertising and leave it at that, but that’s not what social media is for. Social media is for sharing and building connections. You can’t do that if all you’re doing is advertising.
“It’s a dialogue, not a monologue. No offense, but no one wants to hear you talk about yourself all the time. Humanizing your brand means curating and creating multi dimensional content and a community hub for your niche.” – Social Media Sun
Take the time to get to know your audience and cater to them. Sure, you can definitely throw in some promo here and there, but make sure you’re making a variety of content. People don’t care about social media profiles that are basically one giant advertisement. If you’re not going to post a variety of content, you’re not going to get a variety of followers/potential customers.
Find Your Voice
Everyone needs to have a clear and unique voice on social media, no matter if you’re one person or a big company. Voice is vital, especially when it comes to humanizing your brand.
Your voice makes it clear that there is a real person behind your profile. It tells people that you care about what you’re posting instead of just posting because you feel like you have to be on social media. Your audience is smart. They can tell when your voice isn’t unique. It gives off the image that you don’t care or you’re inauthentic. If you don’t care about what you post then why should anyone care about what you have to say?
“When your voice is clear, people know what they’re getting when they follow you, they know that they like what you have to say, and they know that you’re someone they’re interested in. If your voice isn’t clear, people may follow you but those followers don’t tend to stick. They may think they like your content, but if your voice isn’t strong those followers tend to slip away.” – Like A Voss
Spotlight Your Employees
It’s hard to humanize a company over an individual person. A lot of companies let that hold them back. They think that since they are a company, not a single person, then they can’t humanize their brand. That’s simply not true. If you’re a big company then you have many people you can spotlight to humanize you!
“One of the best ways to prove to consumers that your brand has real humans behind it is to reveal the humans that work behind the brand. This would involve sharing stories of your employees through social media.” – Forbes
Try making a segment where you feature a different employee every week. Post about what they do, what they like, or anything else they want to share. Let your audience get to know the real people behind the company!
Currently, Like A Voss has a weekly segment on our social media profiles called Meet the Team Mondays. Every Monday, we’ll post a photo of one of our employees and caption it with a question we asked them and their answers. It’s a fun way to show your audience who is behind the brand.
There are tons of ways to humanize your brand, like by showing a sense of humour, using everyday language, engaging with your audience, and so much more. If you’re a company on social media, you need to prioritize this!
