Jasmine started Jasmine Violette Art in October 2020 selling only watercolour portrait art. Now, her business has evolved into selling paintings, prints, greeting cards and stickers; with the occasional limited runs of apparel.
Our girl Betina interviewed Jasmine about their secret to success in business and in life. We also got some awesome insights into what she thinks makes social media such an effective tool in business.
A Little Bit About Being an Entrepreneur
1: How long have you been in business?
1.5 years.
2: What made you decide to break away from the 9-5 and start your business?
I love creating paintings that resonate with people. I also wanted to create greeting cards that weren’t just your standard cards that you get from a store but a special card that was different and meaningful.
3: What do you love most about being an entrepreneur?
I get to share myself with other people. When someone buys a print or a card from me, they aren’t just buying a product, they are also buying a piece of my creativity and my hard work.
4: What is the hardest thing you have had to overcome as an entrepreneur? Something you did not foresee when you decided to start your business?
Everything is a trial and error. There is no complete online guide on lots of aspects of business and what may work for somebody won’t work for you.
5: What is one thing about working in your industry that people would be surprised to learn?
Burnout and creative block happens very often among artists. The pressures of social media and having to create new pieces everyday to stay relevant is a big factor.

6: Do you have a favorite social media platform? Why?
Instagram and TikTok – Because there is a lot of potential to find customers in your niche and honestly, the art community is so supportive. I have made lots of great friends on Instagram and TikTok.
7: What made you decide to start using social media as a way to promote your company?
When I was starting out a lot of artists I looked up to were on social media and it seemed like a great way to reach potential customers.
8: How has social media impacted your business? Would you say that it’s an effective marketing tool?
It is an effective marketing tool as most of my sales come from social media.
9: What advice would you give to other businesses and entrepreneurs who want to use social media as a way to connect with customers?
Be yourself, stay on top of trends and be consistent on your social media platforms.
