Our girl Betina interviewed Jocelyn about their secret to success in business and in life. We also got some awesome insights into what she thinks makes social media such an effective tool in business.

A Little Bit About Being an Entrepreneur

1: How long have you been in business?

Since February 2020.

2: What made you decide to break away from the 9-5 and start your business?

I had been thinking about it for years, I craved flexibility and wanted to build something that I was passionate about, so when we moved back to Canada after 4 years in Ireland I decided it was now or never. I was doing part-time remote work for a small business in Ireland for the first 8 months which helped me transition into fill time organizing.

3: What do you love most about being an entrepreneur?

I get to do what I love every day! I love the transformation in my clients homes and knowing that I’ve made their life a little easier.

4: What is the hardest thing you have had to overcome as an entrepreneur? Something you did not foresee when you decided to start your business?

Well, I started my business in February 2020 so there was a pretty obvious challenge that hit the world shortly after. Other than that I’d say that my biggest struggle was that I didn’t know anyone when I moved to Kingston, so I had to find new ways to meet people and get the word out about my business.

5: What is one thing about working in your industry that people would be surprised to learn?

I think most people think it’s just grouping things and putting them in rainbow order but you’re dealing with a lot of moving parts. From sourcing products, to helping clients through the emotion of letting things go, to marketing, scheduling, time management, space planning, installation, finance. And so much more.

6: Do you have a favorite social media platform? Why?

Instagram is my favourite, the work I do is fairly visual so I think it is the best platform to showcase what I do.

7: What made you decide to start using social media as a way to promote your company?

Being new to Kingston, social media helped me get to know the community quickly. I had the pleasure of working with a couple of local influencers early on to spread the word.

8: How has social media impacted your business? Would you say that it’s an effective marketing tool?

Social media has helped me connect directly with potential customers. It’s helped me grow and reach people I wouldn’t have through traditional marketing. I love that you get direct feedback and you can quickly switch up things that aren’t working.

9: What advice would you give to other businesses and entrepreneurs who want to use social media as a way to connect with customers?

Go for it! Have a plan, but have fun with it, It can feel daunting at first but you’ll get into a groove

When I’m not organizing you’ll find me exploring Kingston and the surrounding area with my four year old Emmylou and husband Ryan. I’ve also been tackling many DIY projects around our house, slowly taking it from an 80’s nightmare to a more modern space.
