For many entrepreneurs and small businesses, social media can be an absolute game-changer! All it takes is one viral post and a business can suddenly take off.
At Like A Voss Inc, we’re highlighting local businesses and entrepreneurs who are killing the online game. This week’s spotlight is on Lisa Jarvie, Owner of Lisa Jarvie @ RE/MAX Check Realty.
“Although I work under the well known RE/MAX brand I am a independent small business that is dedicated to bring next level service to my clients before, during and after they purchase or sell property in the Campbell River area.” – Lisa
Our CEO Mandi actually bought her condo from Lisa, her original agent was Ashley (we already featured her) but when Mandi was ready to buy Ashley was on mat leave – so she handed Mandi over to Lisa’s capable hands. And BOY did Lisa deliver. In case you didn’t know, Mandi found a lovely condo (and is already living in it).
A Little Bit About Being an Entrepreneur
1: How long have you been in business?
A smidge over a year. 🙂
2: What made you decide to break away from the 9-5 and start your business?
I needed a challenge, I craved to be able to tap into the creative side of me that wasn’t being utilized in my 9-5 job.
3: What do you love most about being a business owner?
I love being able to have an idea and the ability to run with it, without any yellow tape. It’s full accountability if I fail, I’ll learn from it, if I succeed I can be freakin proud of myself, look back and say “I did that.”
4: What is the hardest thing you have had to overcome as an entrepreneur? Something you did not foresee when you decided to start your business?
100% the roller coaster of highs and lows. I’m learning to enjoy the highs and the success but to be comfortable and work harder in the lows, putting full trust into knowing the highs will come back with dedication.
5: What is one thing about working in your industry that people would be surprised to learn?
There is so much work being done in the background! It’s not just counting bedrooms, taking pictures and slapping a sold sign on a house.
And Now Onto The Social Media Questions!
6: Do you have a favourite social media platform? Why?
7: How has social media impacted your business? Would you say that it’s an effective marketing tool?
It goes back to being able to be creative, I can put together a post, obsess over 1000 different fonts and graphics trying to put together an image I feel will grab the attention of others, that’s simple, clean and reflects my business.
8: What advice would you give to other businesses and entrepreneurs who want to use social media as a way to connect with customers?
My advice would be to keep it authentic, have it reflect not just your business but your personality as well. People want to know who you are as a person not just your business.
A Little More About Lisa
Adventure is my favorite word! It can be as simple as a road trip or whale watching or as daunting as climbing Mt Albert Edward, 5040 or submerging in a submarine. I love exploring and experiencing all there is to do no matter where I am. There is not much I wouldn’t do.
