At Plant WitchCraft I wire wrap stones and crystals by hand and turn them into wearable jewelry! Along with other crystal jewelry pieces, I create witchcraft accessories like spell jars and altar decor.
Our CEO Mandi interviewed Mackenzie about their secret to success in business and in life. We also got some awesome insights into what she thinks makes social media such an effective tool in business.
A Little Bit About Being an Entrepreneur
1: How long have you been in business?
Since 2020. 2 years now!
2: What made you decide to break away from the 9-5 and start your business?
I hate being under the control of someone else when it comes to my life and schedule. I like to create my own hours and work when I can so I can better manage my home-work life balance.
3: What do you love most about being an entrepreneur?
The creative freedom! Being able to turn an idea into a reality using my own hands is one of my favourite parts of being an entrepreneur, along with all the people you meet along the way!
4: What is the hardest thing you have had to overcome as an entrepreneur? Something you did not foresee when you decided to start your business?
Maintaining a normal sleep schedule and routine. I find some days I can manage my time well and then other day i could be working on products for hours, taking product photos, drafting content all through the night and end up sleeping all day. Learning to separate business and personal time is still a struggle.
5: What is one thing about working in your industry that people would be surprised to learn?
Although most crystals and stones are naturally made with a few being man made, there has been a large increase of rare naturally made crystals and stones that are being man made and sold as natural due to the rarity of them and many people can be scammed. Always do your research before buying new crystals or stones you haven’t bought before!

6: Do you have a favourite social media platform? Why?
7: What made you decide to start using social media as a way to promote your company?
In 2022 social media has the largest impact in reach for businesses. Just the way our society is going everyone is on social media of some type so it is the most consistent way to go!
8: How has social media impacted your business? Would you say that it’s an effective marketing tool?
I have met so many amazing people and through connections via social media I have expanded my sales channels and have brought in more customers and sales in the last year! If you know what you want to get out of social media and use it accordingly it absolutely is an effective marketing tool!
9: What advice would you give to other businesses and entrepreneurs who want to use social media as a way to connect with customers?
Don’t worry if it doesn’t take off right away! It’s a slow process and it’s better to have 500 loyal followers who are customers than 2,000 followers and only a handful are customers. There is a big difference in organic and paid content, you don’t always need to pay to promote something! Stay connected with local businesses, always comment back and have fun!
A Little More About Mackenzie
I am 26 years old and one of my favourite things to do has always been to create art, from painting, to wood burning, and jewelry making. If I’m not working on making something I am most likely sleeping, caring for my jungle of houseplants, and/or dancing around my apartment listening to questionable music. 😅
I live with my military boyfriend and our 2 cats Riley (10) and Randy (2) who are basically my children, and one last fun fact about me is I have 6 brothers and 2 sisters all younger than myself! To say I get kids is an understatement!
