Rebecca’s Crochet Creations first came to life a little over a year ago when I learned how to crochet my best friend a blanket after finding out she was expecting. Ever since I have been *hooked* on crocheting! The same best friend, later strongly encouraged me to pursue crocheting as a side hustle. Rebecca’s Crochet Creations is all about bringing the customers and my own ideas to life!
Our CEO Mandi interviewed Rebecca about her secret to success in business and in life.
A Little Bit About Being an Entrepreneur
1: How long have you been in business?
About 6 months!
2: What made you decide to break away from the 9-5 and start your business?
Actually, I still work full time! I work shift work, doing 12 hour shifts working with youths.
3: What do you love most about being a business owner?
I love meeting new people, and collaborating with other local artists & small businesses!
4: What is the hardest thing you have had to overcome as an entrepreneur? Something you did not foresee when you decided to start your business?
Burnout! It’s so hard to be burnt out from your craft, despite how much you enjoy it. I definitely didn’t foresee all of the connections I’d build with other local artists and businesses. Everyone is so friendly and supportive!
5: What is one thing about working in your industry that people would be surprised to learn?
How time consuming and expensive crocheting can be. Many people don’t realize how expensive yarn is, or that it could take longer to make something versus buying it in a store.

6: Do you have a favourite social media platform? Why?
7: How has social media impacted your business? Would you say that it’s an effective marketing tool?
I started my business mid pandemic. No visiting. No events. No performances. If it weren’t for social media, we would have had no way to reach anyone! Yet we blew up more and more every month (thankfully!) by being consistent on our socials!
8: What advice would you give to other businesses and entrepreneurs who want to use social media as a way to connect with customers?
Definitely build connections with other local businesses! Networking is a super big part of small businesses and the entrepreneur life!
A Little More About Rebecca
I am 23, and have only been crocheting for a year!!! I have always had a passion for art and entrepreneurship, starting back in high school where I took entrepreneurship (TWICE) and art&Graphic design throughout high school ! I studied, and graduated from Community and Justice Services at St Lawrence College in 2019. I love helping people, and this course gave me the opportunity to! I am a lifelong learner. I love learning new skills, and plan on returning back to school as soon as I can. I work full time with youths, and I am also very passionate about this work. I love spending time at home with my boyfriend, dog and two cats! Staying in, watching movies or playing video games. OR going out to the movies to see the latest Marvel or StarWars movies > over anything else!
