At Like A Voss Social Media, we’re highlighting local businesses and entrepreneurs who are killing the online game. This week’s spotlight is on Lady Fuller, Owner of Self Mental Health!

A Little Bit About Being a Female Entrepreneur

1: How long have you been in business?

This April marked 3 years is business! However, I started seeing clients in my private counseling practice in March 2020.

2: What made you decide to break away from the 9-5 and start Self Mental Health?

As a child I grew up in a home with two loving parents who taught my siblings and I how to be charitable and loving towards others. My parents assisted and served under privileged individuals in our community. I always had desired the freedom, from my 9 to 5, to be able to serve and assist others during their self- investment journey!

3: What do you love most about being a female entrepreneur?

I love the fact that I have had the opportunity to meet so many amazing female entrepreneurs! I have networked with such wonderful business women who are willing to step in and assist in any way needed. I have had the opportunity to travel near and far to learn new research concerning mental health! Since COVID19, all workshops and training are online. However, we have made the best out of it!

4: What is the hardest thing you have had to overcome as a female entrepreneur?

To be totally honest, learning how to balance business and my personal life. To include, remaining current with client notes, assessments, billing, sending in quarterly taxes, my roles as a wife, mother, friend, sibling has been a learning curve!

5: Something you did not foresee when you decided to start your business?

I didn’t realize how time consuming building a valuable team would be, but I learned quickly! It was difficult, and stressful at times, being a one woman show and managing client care and the business aspects alone.

6: What is one thing about working in mental health that people would be surprised to learn?

My instructor in my Masters program always told his students that a therapist should have a therapist! Also, it’s a myth that personality weakness or character flaws cause mental health problems.

And Now Onto The Social Media Questions!

7: Do you have a favorite social media platform? Why?

I can’t really say I have a favorite. It seems as if Facebook has always been my go to, probably because I’ve spent more time there than Instagram. I’m learning the flexibility Instagram has to offer and now building my presence. However, now that Clubhouse is on the rise I have been enjoying the conversations with other business owners and professionals!

8: What made you decide to start using social media as a way to promote your company?

It’s a free marketing tool! I love that each platform allows me to interact with diverse populations. It has exposed me to so many people I would’ve never had the opportunity to meet in person!

9: How has social media impacted your business? Would you say that it’s an effective marketing tool?

Social media allowed my business to flourish in ways that has afforded me the opportunity to communicate to a variety of audiences without having to travel. I would have to say yes, social media is an effective marketing tool. Social media platforms have reshaped the old ways of communication.

10: What advice would you give to other businesses and entrepreneurs who want to use social media as a way to connect with customers?

Be your authentic self!! Stay true to your values and beliefs!! Set boundaries healthy and abide by them. Don’t allow self-doubt to set in! What God has for you, it’s for you!!
